London Triathlon - 9 &10 August 2008
The Umicore IR team, Claire, Geoff and Tim, will take part in the London Triathlon in August. On Saturday 9th we will aim to complete the team Olympic Relay event (as fast as possible of course). On Sunday Geoff and Tim will try and shake off the effects of the previous day's exertions and complete the Olympic Men's Individual event (1.5k swim; 40k cycle; 10k run).
We would like to use our initiative in a positive way to raise money in support of the work of Médecins du Monde (MDM). MDM provides much needed medical help for vulnerable people trapped in crisis situations or who are excluded from access to medical care. In order to enable as many people as possible to sponsor us we have chosen to support the operations of MDM Belgium and MDM UK. We have also harnessed an investor community trick and have found means to leverage your donation. Umicore has committed itself to double the amount raised, so whatever you generously donate it will make a doubly positive difference to someone’s life. Thank you for any help that you are able to provide to these much-needed projects. We will do our best in August to deserve your contribution.
MDM Belgium
MDM Belgium provides medical care in Brussels for disadvantaged people who find themselves excluded from the healthcare system (for example homeless people and refugees). Their work not only involves providing first-line medical care but also helping people find an entry point into the official health system. MDM Belgium also has projects operating in other countries and we have opted to also support their work in the Eastern Kasai region of the Democratic Republic of Congo.
